Celebrating the life of

James Edward McBride Jr.

April 25, 1948 - February 22, 2026

James Edward McBride Jr.

James (Jim) Edward McBride, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, with his beloved wife by his side.

Born on April 25, 1948, in Savannah, Georgia, Jim was the son of the late James Edward McBride, Sr. and Mary Frances Desposito McBride. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his infant son James E. McBride, III. One of five brothers, he grew up alongside Anthony (Tony), Ronald (Ronnie), Patrick, and Frank McBride, forming the strong family bonds that would define his life.

Jim proudly served his country as a member of the United States Naval Construction Battalion — the Seabees — completing two tours in Vietnam. He carried the quiet strength, resilience, and sense of duty he developed in service throughout the rest of his life.

Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, and family man. He shared a deep and loving partnership with his wife, Karen Womble McBride, and took immense pride in his sons, Jay McBride (Roshina Jimenez) and Chip McBride (Monica Fish). His love of family extended to his cherished dog, Poppy, and to his many nieces and nephews, including Riley McBride, Enrica Cozzutto Russell, Chris McBride and Shawn McBride. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Chuck Womble and sister-in-law Mickilyn Womble, their children Nicholas (Aimee) and Emily Womble Bristol (James), and many extended family members and dear friends.

Jim lived a life of faith and service. He was deeply active in St. James Catholic Church, and he dedicated countless hours volunteering including the St. James Pantry and around the church. His faith was not only something he professed, but something he lived through quiet acts of generosity and steady commitment to his community.

After retiring from Carson Products, he began a second career as Sailing Director at the Savannah Yacht Club. A lifelong lover of the water, Jim found great joy in sailing and boating. He loved teaching i how to sail, and was honored to be a part of the finish boat team on the 1996 Olympic Sailing Committee. He was also an active member of the Irish Heritage Society and proudly served on the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, celebrating his heritage and the Irish traditions of Savannah.

Jim will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his service to his country and community, his deep faith, and the steady presence he offered to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the traditions he upheld, and the love he so freely gave.

A visitation and Rosary will be held at Fox & Weeks Funeral Home on Hodgeson Memorial Drive on Thursday from 4:00 pm to 6:00pm. A Funeral Mass with a reception to follow will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church on Old Whitefield Road on Friday at 11:00 a.m.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
